The Ground Hornbill

The ground Hornbill

A massive ground dwelling bird (capable of flight though), the Ground Hornbill has a cry which is totally evocative of the African Bush. Click here to hear what one sounds like.

Honey Badger

I just love the Honey Badger - an animal so packed with attitude you can almost feel it's aggression and willingness to take anything on. We saw this little ripper near Umlani.

Cutesy Hyena

Hyena Timbavati 2013

Hyena get a bad press (Thanks Disney!) but they are in fact wonderful animals.
Perhaps I should take on their account.

Calm Down dear - it's only a bloody starling!

The gorgeous Glossy Starling

Ele in the way!

The morning rush hour can be hell in the Timbavati -
all sorts of blockages on the road.

Impala - (referred to as the MacDonald's of the bush, because if you look closely at their behind they have an M shaped marking and all the big predators eat them.) An American lady on our Safari vehicle asked the guide one day "Do Elephant eat Impala?" . How he kept a straight face when he answered I don't know!

That's neat, that's neat, that's neat, that's neat... I really love those Lion feet.

Who said Hyena aren't cute?

This little fella was one of three we saw outside a den near Umlani Bush Camp. This one often sat back whilst the other two played.
